The Ctenanthe Burle-marxii "Prayer Plant" is known for its leaf patterns and noticable. movement throughout the day- following the sun and then folding closed at night.
Soil- Your Ctenanthe will be happiest in an aerated and well draining soil. A standard potting mix is perfect, with the addition of perlite or pumice for drainage.
Watering- Ctenanthes prefer consant moisture, but never over saturation. The key is consistent, even watering. Never soak the whole pot or allow the pot to remain in drained water. A good indicator that your Ctenanthe is ready for it's next drink is when the top few centimetres of soil are dry. You can check this by poking your finger in the soil or using a moisture metre!
Light- Place your Ctenanthe in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight as this will cause their leaves to curl inwards as they try to protect themselves. Be sure to rotate your plant every week or so to ensure even foliage growth!
Humidity- This tropical plant loves high humidity! Keep it away from heaters and air conditioners as these dry out the air. Bathrooms are a great spot for consistent humidity, or place a humidifier nearby. Even better, display this plant in a terrarium!
Temperature- In order for year round leafy foliage, this tropical plant prefers temperatures above 12 degrees (celsius).
Fertiliser- A standard houseplant fertiliser is perfect for regular feeding over the growing seasons.
